 Location: The Solomon Islands are located in the continent of Oceania in the South Pacific Ocean. It is just east of Papua New Guinea and Northeast of Australia (World Fact). 

Size: The total area of the Solomon Islands is 28,896 square kilometers. In comparison, it is smaller than the state of Maryland. And in comparison to the continental U.S, it is a fraction of about less than one percent its size, so it's really small (World Fact).

Terrain: This country's land is mostly forested, about 78.9%, agricultural land at 3.9% and other at 17.2%. It has rugged mountains and coral atolls. (An atoll is a ring-shaped reef/island formed from coral). There is a major body of water which runs through the middle of the islands and it's called the New Georgia Sound. There is also the Solomon Sea which is between Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. Some other bodies of water are straits. They are called the Manning Strait, the Indispensable Strait, and the Bougainville Strait (World Fact).

  1. In France, there are no major bodies of water which runs through the land. It also isn't an island, like Solomon Island. Although France does also have some mountainous areas like this island.
